Your captures aren’t locked in.
Two open standards are converging on Gaussian Splatting at the exact moment VoxaVerse is shipping. Standards-first export means your splats outlive any single vendor — including us.
KHR_gaussian_splatting — Khronos Release Candidate
“A major milestone for glTF.”— Neil Trevett, Khronos President, on the KHR_gaussian_splatting Release Candidate
The Khronos Group announced the KHR_gaussian_splatting baseline extension Release Candidate on February 3, 2026, with ratification expected Q2 2026. The extension adds position/rotation/scale/opacity/spherical-harmonics splat attributes to the glTF 2.0 mesh primitive, with compression extensions proposed by Niantic (SPZ) and Qualcomm (L-GSC) on top.
v26.03 — a first-class Gaussian-splat schema
OpenUSD v26.03, announced March 2026 by the Alliance for OpenUSD, introduced the UsdVolParticleField schema family — including UsdVolParticleField3DGaussianSplat as a first-class prim — plus a reference renderer and WebAssembly build support. The VoxaVerse engine already exports to this schema via USDZ, targeting RealityKit, visionOS/macOS Quick Look, and Omniverse pipelines directly.
What's shipping vs. what's tracked
| Standard | Status at VoxaVerse | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PLY (reference 3DGS binary) | Shipping — engine export + Vortex import | De facto universal interchange |
| SPZ (Niantic) | Shipping — engine export; Vortex imports v1–v3 | v4 (ZSTD) import not yet supported in-browser |
| SOG (PlayCanvas) | Shipping — engine export + Vortex import | Bundled or unbundled |
| OpenUSD (Gaussian-splat schema) | Shipping — engine export (USDZ) | Compact binary variant tracked for a further size cut |
| glTF (KHR_gaussian_splatting) | Vortex imports it today; engine export tracked | Waiting on Khronos ratification before promoting to primary export |
| .nx4d (VoxaVerse 4D stream) | Shipping | Our own delivery format — the only one that keeps time, purpose-built for Vortex |
Why this matters right now
KHR_gaussian_splatting Release Candidate
Khronos Group announcement. Ratification expected Q2 2026.
OpenUSD v26.03
Alliance for OpenUSD ships a first-class Gaussian-splat prim.
Vortex live on this site
Full 4D playback plus PLY/SPZ/SOG/glTF viewing — in any WebGPU or WebGL2 browser.
glTF ratification
On ratification, glTF export is promoted to a primary engine format.
On-device by default
Beacon's capture processing never leaves the device. Any future cloud sync uses encryption in transit and at rest. VoxaVerse does not train on customer captures.

Every format on this page is shipping code, not a roadmap slide — the scenes in the Live Viewer came through it.
